Report from the Laube family
James Carne contacted me in the spring of 2024 via my website with the intention of preparing his planned trip to Switzerland with his partner and friends by researching the Laube family. He himself is a descendant of Gottfried Laube, born in 1851, who left his hometown of Boebikon in Switzerland with family members. They immigrated to North America in 1861. The research culminated in the study of the progenitor, Andreas August Laube, 1661-1735. The farm where the emigrants stayed in Switzerland was identified and visited. Numerous family anecdotes and the reasons for emigration were discovered and written down.
The organization of the trip to Switzerland back to the roots of the Laube family had the following highlights:
- the journey to the place of origin Boebikon and to Wislikofen (parish)
- visiting the churches where the ancestors were baptized
- a visit to the archives in Zurzach and Baldingen, where the original baptismal and family records are kept
- Visiting places of interest related to family history
This research paper was published in the journal "Regio-Familienforscher" Volume 37, No. 2, June 2024. This very interesting research paper can also be found on this website (German and English versions).
